MAHALAYA PAKSHA

Dear friends

A lot is written in the groups about Sraadha during Mahalaya Paksha. As far as my knowledge goes it is not considered special in Central Kerala. A few had written it as having different Mantras. I have also read a few mails from a North Indian Brahmins. Of course their procedures appears different. No were I could read any body mentioning it need not be performed after Gaya sraadha or to be performed.

Recently I had a mail from a member from Bangalore whether sraadha can be performed after a nandi. In that he had mentioned since they have performed Gayasraadha his mother had told to stop Malayapaksha sraadha. I hope their mother is correct.

It is said Lord Yama will be releasing all pithrus to Earth during Malayapaksha for the special offering. After Gaya sraadha since pithrus are elevated as Devas I am of opinion they will not be available to take the offerings during Mahalaya Paksha and under the custody of Lord Yama.
