Why North India is Decaying?

Recently I had some work in IIT, Kanpur for a week. I also visited Varanasi, Lucknow and Ayodhya.


North India has such grear culture and rich history. But, what is now striking is the total dilapidated look in Uttar Pradesh. The infrastructure is crumbling everywhere. Lucknow looks a little better but the condition of the entire state is pathetic.If you compare the conditions in cities like Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad, the UP state seem to be still in the 1950s.

The UP has produced so many Prime Ministers and the central cabinet was always loaded with UP men. Then why this horrible decay? For example if you look at the Transport used, cycles is the most preferred transport followed by cycle rickshaws and two wheelers. (cycles are almost non existent in Bangalore!). The public transport services ike buses or trains(local) is very poor. The roads are narrow and ill maintained. Most of the business buildings are old and dilapidated. The cleanliness is not much to speak about. The poverty of the common people is visible all around. Train stations and services are poor. Even if you have reservation in a sleeper coach all types of people enter the coach and sit in all places. They even enter ac coaches with unreserved second class tickets. No TTE can question them! That is the law and order part of it!

The politicians in North or South are equally corrupt. Then why UP and other northern states are acting like a black hole sucking up India's income and producing no output? It occurs to me that in the south the corrupt politicians put back their money into building cinemas, Engineering colleges, apartment complexes, supermarkets, hotels, taxi services etc. So the corruption money comes back into circulation and there is alround growth. This also induces our south politicians to spend more government money in infrasstructure development as it helps their own businesses. But in the North they put away the money somewhere, may be in swiss banks and it disappears. The south Indian politicians earn more through their businesses and the North politicians earn more through more corruption! The result is for all to see! So the old DMK slogan that "Therku theikirathu, vadakku valarkirathu" is to be now reversed!

One possible simple action we can suggest may be that these north politicians should travel to Bangalore or Chennai etc and stay here for a month. They need not tour the world to know the reality!
