Hello elders:
We are trying to fix a date for seemantham. The elders in our family and our family priest have all given us conflicting views on when this function should be conducted. I went through all the messages so far in this group and I still see divergent opinions..
Some say it should be between 150-180 days (after 5th month) and 210 and 240 days (after 7th month)
Others including our family priest say: 180-210 (after 6th month) and if unavoidable then 240-270 (after the 8th month) days.
Can you please let us know what is the Kerala Iyer (if any such) practice for this function? Your opinions (and any scientific significance) will help corroborate the month this should be conducted.
Appreciate greatly.
Regards
Shankar
The second opinion given by your priest is the only one being practiced by Tirunelveli Brahmins. Since large number of Kerala Iyers migrated from Tirunelveli area, I presume that the same practice prevails in Kerala also. The only risk in having it after the 8th month is the strain to the expectant mother.
